Monarch Computer Systems® Premiers their New Empro™ 2 Line of Servers - Powered by Next-Generation AMD Opteron™ Processors

Monarch Computer Systems® Premiers their New Empro™ 2 Line of Servers

Atlanta -August 15, 2006 - Monarch Computer Systems® today announced the release of the Monarch Empro™ 2, a new line of servers and workstations based on Next-Generation AMD Opteron™ processors. Successor to Monarch Computer's original Empro™ line, the Empro 2 offers the benefits of the latest evolution of AMD Opteron processors, including AMD-Virtualization™ (AMD-V™), high-performing, low-power DDR2 memory and a quad-core ready socket for future upgradeability. The Empro 2 line will be available in tower workstations and servers, and also rack mountable servers from 1U to 5U sizes.

"We are truly excited about the enhancements to our Empro 2 line of servers made possible by the Next-Generation AMD Opteron processor," said Trey Harris, founder of Monarch Computer. "With industry-leading performance-per-watt capabilities and advanced leadership in x86 virtualization, AMD helps lower the total cost of ownership and improve the business capabilities of our customers. Monarch's Empro 2 customers will greatly benefit from the combination of AMD's proven technologies and our expert engineering, quality of products, and custom tailored support packages."

The Next-Generation AMD Opteron processor with DDR2 memory and AMD PowerNow!™ technology capabilities will define a new standard in performance-per-watt in server and workstation markets. DDR2 uses 30% less power than the DDR DIMMs used in previous generation products and 58% less power than the FB-DIMMs, which are being used by the competition. AMD PowerNow!™ technology, originally used in AMD's mobile CPUs, can change the CPU's core speed and VCore voltage as needed. This feature is designed to reduce power consumption as well as heat output when the CPU is not being utilized to its maximum specification.

AMD Virtualization provides added flexibility to the Empro 2 servers. AMD-V allows users to run development and test environments on their existing hardware, greatly reducing the cost of upgrading to new platforms. AMD-V can also be used for disaster recovery, or as a secondary server. This can save companies and data centers from the cost of additional hardware, reduce space requirements, and add redundancy. All of these benefits can be enjoyed by small and large companies alike.

"The Empro 2 further demonstrates Monarch's commitment to providing reliability, performance and cost-effective computing solutions for their customers," said Pat Patla, director, Server/Workstation Marketing, AMD (NYSE: AMD). "Next-Generation AMD Opteron processors with Direct Connect Architecture reduce traditional bottlenecks inherent in front-side bus architectures for better overall system performance, offering the functionality and flexibility that is critical for success in the enterprise, while helping reduce the total cost of ownership (TCO)."

Monarch Computer Systems® Adds New AMD Processor to Systems

Bringing More Features for Everyone

Atlanta -May 23rd, 2006 - Monarch Computer Systems® today announced new lines of computer systems based on the new AMD Athlon 64 FX-62 processor. The new lines will be extensions of the existing Monarch Computer™ Furia®, Nemesis™, and Adversary® lines of PCs with a "2" added to the name to signify support for DDR2 memory. Previously one of the few criticisms of the Athlon64 CPUs was its lack of DDR2 support; this has now been addressed with the new AM2 socket Athlon 64 processors beginning with the Athlon 64 FX-62. The FX-62 breaks ground for coming AMD socket AM2 processors supporting DDR2.

DDR2 SDRAM is the next iteration of Double-Data-Rate or DDR SDRAM. DDR2 is similar to DDR in that it transfers information on both the rising and falling edge of the SDRAM clock. However, with DDR2 you can achieve higher clock speeds by improvements in termination, interface, and a doubled prefetch buffer. DDR2 accomplishes all this while using less power; it uses 1.8v compared to 2.4v for DDR. Currently DDR2 supports speeds up to 800 MHz, compared to the 400MHz DDR memory previously supported by AMD Athlon 64.

The FX-62 is more than simply an FX-60 with an upgraded memory controller. Like the FX-60 the FX-62 is a dual-core CPU with 1MB cache per core, however the Athlon 64 FX-62 runs at 2.8Ghz ; a significant upgrade of 200MHz over the its predecessor. Further, with 18.7 GB/s maximum bandwidth to the system, the FX-62 can transfer up to 4.3 GB/s more data per second than the FX-60.

Perhaps the most significant upgrade to the FX-62 is the addition of AMD's virtualization technology, previously known under the codename Pacifica. Virtualization is a technique of running multiple operating systems, or virtual machines, on one computer. Virtualization allows the user to create more than one isolated virtual computer on their system which can be used to test new software without affecting how the system itself runs, and can also be used for particular applications that might otherwise negatively affect the PC, such as web browsing.

"Ever wish you had two computers, one for work and the other so you could goof off without risking your company's data? Now you can with our new line of systems with the AMD Athlon 64 FX-62 processor. Virtualization isn't new, but the Athlon 64 FX-62 is the first AMD desktop processor to boost virtualization performance in hardware." said Jason Valdes, a Monarch Computer Account Manager.

With the new AMD Athlon 64 FX-62 Monarch Computer's lines of AMD-based systems will be more flexible and powerful than ever.

Monarch Empro and ULB Get Latest Dual-Core AMD Opteron™ Processors
Venerable Lines of Workstations and Servers Get New Ticker, Lease on Life

Atlanta - September 26, 2005 From their headquarters in Tucker, GA, Monarch Computer announced today the addition of the latest Dual-Core AMD Opteron™ processors, Model 880 and Model 280, to the Monarch Empro and Ultimate Linux Box (ULB) line of servers and workstations. The new Dual-Core AMD Opteron processors re-invigorate two old and venerable lines of Monarch servers and workstations by providing them with one of the best platforms for x86 computing. Monarch Empro and ULB servers and workstations with Dual-Core AMD Opteron processors come in one, two, and four processor configurations, meaning that customers can purchase systems with up to eight CPU cores at the highest performance available.

High Performance - Low Power

The Dual-Core AMD Opteron processors have the same wattage profile as their single-core processors, about 95 watts. This means that the new Empro and ULB systems with the Dual-Core AMD Opteron processor Model 880 or Model 280 offer greater performance without increasing heat or power requirements.

"It's unbelievable what AMD did with the Dual-Core AMD Opteron processor," said Trey Harris, founder of Monarch Computer. "Not only can we now offer four-way (8-core) systems, but we can offer two-way (4-core) servers and workstations in smaller form factors than previously possible. You want four cores sitting in a tower on your desk for CAD? Done."

"As the undisputed leader in x86 dual-core processing performance and energy cost-savings for multi-processor capable servers and workstations, AMD collaborates with companies like Monarch to deliver leading-edge, 64-bit performance to various computing environments," said Pat Patla, director, Server/Workstation Marketing, Microprocessor Solutions Sector, AMD (NYSE: AMD).

Monarch's dual-core servers and workstations feature high-density RAID arrays larger than four terabytes with Adaptec and 3-Ware RAID controllers, and hard drives from Western Digital, Maxtor, and Hitachi. Monarch's two-way Dual-Core AMD Opteron processor-based servers support up to 32 GB of DDR memory, while the four-way Empro servers support up to 64GB of DDR memory. Monarch Empro and ULB Dual-Core AMD Opteron processor-based Workstations support up to four monitors using up to two PCI-E video cards from NVidia and ATI. New Empro Workstations support from 512 MB up to 32 GB of DDR memory and storage option from 40GB to over 1 TB.

According to Mr. Harris, "Nobody puts the time and effort we do into building each server and workstation. Every power cable is tucked neatly out of the way, every ribbon cable folded and tied to reduce its effect on airflow, and every last thing is checked by an experienced quality control professional. With the new Dual-Core AMD Opteron processor, your new Monarch Empro will not only be a work of art, it will be a serious performer as well."

Monarch Announces the Vulcan line of CAD systems with the Monarch Vulcan 3G Intel Pentium4 3GHz processor sets the mark in Monarch's high-end CAD line

Atlanta - November 31, 2002- Monarch Computer Systems today is proud to introduce the new Vulcan line of CAD computer systems. Based on the Intel Pentiumâ 533MHz FSB processors and 3D Labs Wildcat VPÔ line of video cards, the Vulcan will span the medium-to-high end of the uncompromising CAD market. The first system in the line, the 3G, will use a 3GHz processor and the fastest Wildcat VP currently available making the Monarch Vulcan 3D one of the most powerful workstations in its segment.

"Vulcan was the Roman Smith god. Characterized by his strength and ingenuity, he was an engineer through and through. We believe he best represents our target market with this line of Workstations", said Jason Valdes, Monarch Computer Systems product manager. "Despite the challenges in the CAD market, we know these systems will be used to design the computers, aircraft, spacecraft, and even cities of tomorrow." The CAD market is identified with discerning, professional customers and exacting system requirements.

"CAD software is so demanding on the system hardware, but we believe the Vulcan line will be able to handle the toughest tasks without breaking the bank." The Monarch Vulcan 3G will have a 3GHz Intel Pentium-4 processor with Hyper-ThreadingÔ technology, 533MHz front-side bus, 512K of cache, a 3Dlabs Wildcat VP 970 video card with 128 megs of video memory, 2GB of PC2700 system RAM running at 333MHz, 120GB Western Digital Special Edition hard drive with 8 MB cache, a 16X40 DVD, and a Yamaha 44X24X44 CD-RW for saving large files. Monarch enclosed the system in an Aluminum mid-tower chassis with room for up to 8 hard disks and 4 5.25" drives, anodized in black for a sleek, professional look.

The aluminum material of the case assists in removing heat from the vital components of the computer, enabling the use of quieter fans and more powerful components like the 3GHz processor. Additional features include manually adjustable fan speeds, an IEEE-1394 firewire controller for peer-to-peer data transfer, 10/100 Ethernet, and a Serial-ATA controller to support future hard drive upgrades.

The Intel Pentium 4 3GHz processor is the first CPU to break the 3GHz barrier. Intel included Hyperthreading support in this new version of the P4, a technology that was previously only supported by the Pentium 4 XeonÔ. Built on Intel's Netburst Architecture and .13 micron manufacturing process, the 3GHz is an evolution of previous Pentium 4 processors. It includes Streaming SIMD extensions (SSE) 2 and 512k of advanced transfer cache, making it the perfect CPU for today's demanding CAD applications.

The 3Dlabs Wildcat 970 VP is the heart of the Monarch Vulcan line. 3Dlabs prefers to refer to the VP as a "Visual Processing Unit" or VPU instead of the standard GPU, or Graphics Processing Unit. It is a 100% programmable unit and is capable of over 2 Gflops and 1.2 TeraOPs. It can produce 225 million vertices per second and 42G AA Samples per second, making it the fastest Wildcat VP available. The Wildcat VP 970 supports dual monitors with one DB-15 analog SVGA connector and one DVI connector that offers support for the latest digital flat-panel monitors. The card comes with a DVI-analog adapter to support dual analog monitors if required. The Wildcat VP included in the Monarch Vulcan 3G has 128 megs of 256-bit memory, making it the first CAD system with genuine 256-bit access to video memory. It also gives the Monarch Vulcan 3G support for OpenGLâ 2.0 and Direct3Dâ applications.

nVIDIA - Monarch Computer Systems Press Release
Monarch Computer Systems offers first systems with GeForce 3 GPU
New NVIDIA card expected to deliver life-like 3D to Monarch line

Atlanta - May 21, 2001 - Monarch began taking orders on their webstore today for their newest gaming system, the Monarch BFG 1.33 DDR.  The BFG 1.33DDR has the new AMD 1333 MHz Athlon processor with a 266MHz front-side bus (FSB), 120 GBs of hard drive space in a RAID-0 array, 256 MB of high-speed, PC2100 DDR memory running at 266MHz, and the recently released NVIDIA GeForce 3 3D graphics processing unit (GPU) with 64 MB of DDR memory with S-Video out.  Front-side bus speed is the speed at which the processor communicates with the motherboard.

NVIDIA GeForce 3 promises ultra-realistic 3D
The BFG series first debuted as the BFG 1200 in San Jose at the launch of the GeForce3, NVIDIA's graphics processing unit (GPU).  The GeForce3 is a groundbreaking product; the first GPU manufactured with a .15-micron process, the processor pioneers NVIDIA's new nfiniteFX" engine, Lightspeed Memory Architecture", and High-Resolution Anti-aliasing (HRAA).  nFiniteFX" engine was developed by NVIDIA to give more control to software developers in the use of special effects in their software by making the GPU programmable instead of using pre-defined effects.  The Lightspeed Memory Architecture will help the GPU to make more efficient use of memory bandwidth, while HRAA smoothes the edges of 3D graphics without the performance hit that made previous anti-aliasing methods unattractive to users.

"Between the 266 FSB 1.33 GHz Athlon processor and the new GeForce3 you have more rendering power than many of yesterday's supercomputers," said Monarch Product Manager, Jason Valdes " I mean, looking at the demos at the (NVIDIA GeForce 3) launch, it's unbelievable how real they look.  This system is going to be great for gamers".
In addition to the raw rendering power of the BFG 1.33 DDR, gamers will also appreciate the speedy data transfers afforded by the RAID 0 array and PC2100 DDR memory, and they will love the modern styling of the new brushed aluminum case with dual, multi-speed fans for either quiet running or full-on cooling.  The all-aluminum chassis not only aids in heat dissipation but it also makes a handsome addition to any home.  The system also features the Creative Labs Live! family of 5.1 channel, digital sound cards, a 16X10X40 CD-RW for burning audio CDs or making system backups, 16X DVD for playing movies and music, a 3COM Ethernet card for broadband or LAN connections, and a total of four USB ports for upgrade ability.  USB ports allow connectivity to a variety of devices, from scanners and mice to the myriad of game pads, joysticks, and steering wheels available on the market today.
